If there are specific skills, aspects and techniques you would like to focus in your lesson, your instructor is more than happy to do so.
Skateboarding is an excellent way of exercising, and a quick green alternative to the usual commute. Skateboarding is an all-around calorie-burning and muscle-building activity. Depending on the intensity of the skate, the average person will burn between 300-500 calories per hour. Increased physical endurance and coordination is also a benefit of learning to skateboard or Longboard.
Skateboarding involves your feet and legs, helped by your core muscles and arms to balance. Providing an effective full body work out, involving the core muscles on your torso, your quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteus and your lower legs.
Be honest about your abilities. Do not attempt techniques that are too advanced for you, or that you have not been shown. This may well save you some embarrassment as well as an injury.
When you Skateboard and Longboarding you learn how to avoid falling. This is a valuable tool to have in life too; you will have the naturally ability to recover from slips, trips and stumbles, and will help you prevent future injuries. We take your safety very seriously and take every step to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our students by providing full safety equipment for all free of charge. We want you to have fun and feel comfortable during your lessons, so we strongly advise all of our students to wear full safety equipment, including: helmet, elbow pads and knee pads at all times.
When choosing a size for your protective gear, may it be elbow/knee pads, wrist guard or helmets it is imperative that they fit correctly. When they’re too small or too much of a tight fit, they will restrict easy movement and become uncomfortable very quickly. At the same time if they are even slightly too big they will be unable to provide the right protection against knocks and falls. Skate helmets in particular should never cover your line of vision, not wobble when you are skating and should have adjustable straps that buckle under your chin.
Whichever form of skating pads or skate equipment appeals to you, it is advisable that you make sure your skate pads are thick and that they fit snugly, without cutting off your circulation. Most protective skating gear is adjustable; just make sure that they are always altered to the correct sizing before use.
