WHY I SKATEBOARD
I skateboard for so many reasons. It gets me outside, I love being on the move and cruising around London. It is such a social activity and I have met so many people who have become great friends. It has taught me the discipline of focus and perseverance. There is nothing like finally getting a trick after hours of trying it.
MY FAVOURITE TRICKS
The old faithful Kickflip never gets old. Also I love the feeling of anything fakie frontside.
ADVISE TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE JUST STARTED SKATEBOARDING
My advice to anyone starting skateboarding is to try not to expect too much of yourself at first. It is hard! Have fun and set yourself small goals. Also do not be afraid to ask other skaters for help, they will always try to give you tips and know exactly what it feels like to be a beginner. Nobody is amazing the first time they step on a board!
MY FAVOURITE TEACHING STORY
One lesson, a wicked little youngun called Zach fell with one foot on the board, and one on the floor and fully did the splits. Needless to say there were a few tears but he got up, took his glasses off, wiped his eyes and got straight back on the board and tried again. If that was not enough I said to him, ‘Every time I fall I learn something new’, and he gave me the best answer I could have hoped for by saying, ‘Yeah, I learnt I can do the splits!’
